OANDA FAQ

Find answers about opening an account, moving funds, trading costs and using OANDA platforms. These questions cover OANDA Asia Pacific in Singapore; accounts with other OANDA entities follow their own terms.

Opening an account

What documents do I need to open an OANDA account?

OANDA Asia Pacific requires proof of identity and residential address. Identity documents must be valid government-issued photo identification. Address evidence can include a utility bill, bank statement or credit card bill issued within the past six months, showing your name and current home address. OANDA may request additional documents during verification.

How long does account approval take?

A complete live-account application typically takes one to two business days to review. Approval can take longer if documents are missing or further checks are required. Watch your registered email address, including the junk folder, for requests from OANDA.

Which OANDA company serves clients in Singapore?

Singapore residents can apply through OANDA Asia Pacific Pte Ltd. Your country of residence determines the entities available to you, and the company named in your account agreement is the one providing your trading service.

Can I try OANDA with a demo account?

Yes. A demo account uses virtual funds to let you explore charts, practise placing orders and test platform functions. Demo results do not guarantee live results: execution conditions, available instruments and trading costs may differ.

What account types does OANDA Asia Pacific offer?

Applications are available for individual, joint and corporate accounts. Retail and accredited investor classifications have different eligibility requirements and trading terms. Premium and Premium Plus are separate service tiers with qualifying deposit or trading-volume criteria.

Is there a minimum deposit to open an account?

OANDA Asia Pacific does not set a general minimum deposit for a standard account. Premium tiers have separate qualification requirements. To place a trade, you still need enough available funds to meet the instrument's margin requirement and applicable costs.

Deposits and withdrawals

How can I fund an OANDA Asia Pacific account?

Singapore funding methods include PayNow/QR Pay, FAST, DBS Bill Pay and bank transfer. PayNow, FAST and DBS Bill Pay are listed for SGD accounts. Use the payment instructions displayed for your selected account in the HUB or OANDA mobile app, including the required account reference.

Can someone else deposit money into my account?

No. OANDA Asia Pacific does not accept third-party payments or deposits directly from another broker account. The originating bank account must be in the same name as your OANDA account. Its Singapore funding guidance also requires wire transfers to originate from a Singapore-registered bank account in your name.

When will a deposit appear in my trading account?

OANDA lists average processing times of one to two business days for PayNow/QR Pay, FAST and DBS Bill Pay, and one to three business days for local bank transfers. These are estimates for crediting the trading account, even when the payment network transfers funds quickly. Bank schedules, holidays and verification checks can add time.

Are there deposit limits?

The listed Singapore payment methods do not impose a general minimum deposit. Your profile may still have an account-level deposit limit or remaining funding allowance, and your bank may apply its own transfer limits. Check the amount available in your account before sending a payment.

How do I withdraw funds?

In the HUB, select Manage funds > Withdraw, choose the trading account and follow the prompts. Withdrawals are also available through OANDA mobile. Funds are subject to return-to-source rules and must go to an eligible bank account in your name, using the original deposit currency. The amount available depends partly on the margin needed for open positions.

How long do withdrawals take, and what do they cost?

OANDA lists one to two business days for bank transfers within Singapore and two to three business days for internet-banking transfers. Your bank may need additional time. OANDA Asia Pacific does not charge a bank-transfer withdrawal fee, but bank charges can apply. Verification requests can delay processing.

Costs and margin

What costs should I consider before trading?

Trading costs can include the bid–ask spread, commission and financing for positions held overnight. Currency conversion and product-specific adjustments may also apply. The net result of a trade reflects these costs as well as the change in market price.

How does spread-only pricing differ from core pricing?

Spread-only pricing incorporates OANDA's dealing charge into the spread without a separate trading commission under that model. Core pricing combines a reduced spread with a volume-based commission. Compare the spread and commission together for the same instrument and trade size; the lowest advertised spread is not the total trading cost.

What is margin, and how does it relate to leverage?

Margin is the amount required to support a leveraged position. For example, a 5% margin rate corresponds to 20:1 leverage: a US$10,000 position requires US$500 in initial margin. Profit and loss are calculated on the full exposure, not just the margin. Actual rates depend on the instrument, position size and client classification.

Why might OANDA close a position automatically?

Margin closeout can occur when an account no longer meets its required margin level. Market losses, higher margin requirements or a withdrawal can reduce the funds available to support positions. Closeout calculations differ between v20-based accounts and OANDA One accounts, so use the rules for your sub-account rather than assuming one threshold applies everywhere.

When is overnight financing applied?

A position held across the applicable daily financing cut-off can receive a financing charge or credit. Rates and calculation methods vary by product and can change over time. Weekend and holiday settlement can produce multi-day adjustments, so the amount charged on a particular day may cover more than one day.

Which markets are available with OANDA Asia Pacific?

The product range includes CFDs on forex, indices, precious metals, commodities, bonds, shares and cryptocurrencies. These markets are distributed across different sub-account types; they are not all available through every platform. Explore the forex markets and crypto CFDs for more product details.

Forex trading

When can I trade forex CFDs?

Most OANDA Asia Pacific forex CFDs open on Sunday at 17:05 and close on Friday at 16:59, New York time, with a daily break from 16:59 to 17:05. Some instruments have different sessions, and holiday schedules can override normal hours. Singapore-time equivalents change with US daylight saving time.

Which currency pairs does OANDA offer?

OANDA offers major pairs such as EUR/USD, GBP/USD and USD/JPY, along with cross-currency pairs and other global currencies. The instrument list in your trading account shows the pairs available to that sub-account, together with current prices and contract specifications.

What is the smallest forex position I can open?

OANDA's unit-based platform lists a minimum of one base-currency unit for forex CFDs. MT4 and MT5 express volume in lots and list a minimum of 0.01 lot for forex CFDs. One standard FX lot is 100,000 base-currency units, so 0.01 lot represents 1,000 units.

How much is one pip worth?

Pip value depends on the pair, position size and account currency. For EUR/USD, one pip is 0.0001: a 10,000-unit position, equivalent to 0.1 standard lot, changes by US$1 per pip. A different account currency requires conversion. More examples appear on the forex trading page.

Crypto CFDs

Which cryptocurrencies can I trade as CFDs?

OANDA Asia Pacific's Singapore range covers Bitcoin, Ether, Bitcoin Cash and Litecoin against the US dollar. A crypto CFD gives price exposure through a financial contract; it does not provide ownership of the underlying cryptocurrency.

Do crypto CFDs require a wallet, and can I go short?

No wallet or private keys are required. You can buy a CFD to take a long position or sell to take a short position. Neither direction involves receiving or transferring coins. Fractional sizing is available, with minimum quantities depending on the instrument and platform.

Can I trade crypto CFDs at the weekend?

No. OANDA Asia Pacific crypto CFDs follow a 24/5 schedule with scheduled daily breaks. The underlying cryptocurrency market continues trading while the CFD session is closed, which can lead to a price gap when trading resumes.

What margin and stop-loss rules apply to crypto CFDs?

The applicable account specifications set the required margin. Standard stop-loss orders are available, but their execution price is not guaranteed. OANDA Asia Pacific crypto CFDs do not support Guaranteed Stop-Loss Orders, and standard stops do not reduce their margin requirement. See the crypto CFD page for further details.

Trading platforms

Where can I get OANDA MT5?

The download page lists MT5 desktop and mobile options, browser access and information for Mac users. You need an eligible MT5 trading account to connect. Downloading the software does not open an account or enable additional markets.

Which trading platforms can I use?

OANDA Asia Pacific supports OANDA mobile, OANDA web, TradingView, MT4 and MT5 through compatible sub-accounts. For example, OANDA web supports v20-based accounts, while OANDA One accounts support MT5. Platform availability, products and order features depend on the connected account.

Does every platform offer the same instruments?

No. OANDA lists forex, metals, indices, commodities, bonds and crypto CFDs for v20 and v20 MT4 accounts. OANDA One and MT5 accounts list forex, metals, indices, commodities and share CFDs. A shared OANDA profile does not make the product range or trading credentials identical across sub-accounts.

How do I find my OANDA account server in MT5?

Use the MT5 login ID and assigned server shown in the HUB. In the mobile app, search for OANDA and select OANDA Asia Pacific Pte. Ltd., then choose the assigned server. If a server is missing on desktop, refresh the server list. Complete the separate MetaTrader 2FA prompt when signing in.

Will my trades appear on desktop, web and mobile?

Supported applications connected to the same trading account can show its server-held positions, pending orders and balances. Chart layouts, custom indicators, alerts and automated strategies may be stored or run locally and do not necessarily transfer between devices. Check the account number and server if trades appear to be missing.

Can I run automated strategies in MT5?

MT5 desktop supports MQL5 Expert Advisors, custom indicators and strategy testing. The standard web and mobile applications do not run desktop EAs. An EA needs its desktop terminal or a compatible hosted environment to remain active; a successful backtest does not guarantee future performance.

Account security

Is two-factor authentication required?

Yes. OANDA Asia Pacific has required 2FA for account access since 12 September 2025. The HUB manages authentication for OANDA platforms and TradingView, while MetaTrader requires separate setup within its own environment. Enabling HUB authentication alone does not complete MetaTrader setup, and mandatory 2FA cannot be disabled.

How do I reset a forgotten password?

Use the password-recovery option for the login you are trying to access. An OANDA profile password and a MetaTrader trading password are not necessarily the same. Complete the verification using your registered details, and contact OANDA support if you cannot access the required email address or authentication method.

Can I update my email address or phone number?

Profile-management options are available through the HUB. Changes to contact information may require additional verification, particularly when they affect authentication or account recovery. If you cannot sign in with your existing details, contact OANDA support to arrange verification.

How is client money held?

OANDA Asia Pacific states that client deposits are held in trust with licensed Singapore banks, separately from its operating funds. Its help centre names Standard Chartered Bank and DBS Bank. Segregation does not protect against trading losses or guarantee that every amount will be recoverable in an insolvency.

What should I do if I lose my 2FA device or suspect unauthorised access?

Contact OANDA support promptly if you cannot access your authentication device or see activity you do not recognise. Use a trusted device to secure your email and account credentials, and review recent trades and funding records. Never disclose passwords or one-time authentication codes to someone offering account assistance.

How can I contact OANDA Asia Pacific support?
